What is a Mitral Clip?

The mitral clip is a minimally invasive treatment method used in patients with mitral valve regurgitation. It is particularly preferred for patients at high risk for open heart surgery and who do not respond to drug therapy.

The procedure reduces mitral valve regurgitation and improves the heart’s pumping function by connecting the mitral valve leaflets through a catheter inserted in the groin area. Significant improvement is seen in approximately 90% of patients.

The treatment is particularly applied to patients with shortness of breath and fatigue complaints, with an EF value below 60%. The procedure takes an average of 2-3 hours and patients are usually discharged within 2-3 days.
