What is Ablation Therapy?

Ablation therapy is a minimally invasive procedure used to correct heart rhythm disorders (arrhythmias). Using specialised catheters, the abnormal heart tissue causing the electrical activity is rendered ineffective through the use of radiofrequency energy or cryotherapy.

This treatment is preferred for rhythm disorders such as atrial fibrillation, atrial flutter and tachycardia, especially in patients who do not respond to drug therapy. Performed by electrophysiology specialists, the procedure uses 3D mapping systems to target only the problematic areas while preserving healthy tissues.
