Breast Cancer Treatment

According to 2023 cancer statistics in Turkey, the survival rates for early-detected cases are quite high: 98.5% in Stage I, 92% in Stage II, and 75% in Stage III. A personalised treatment plan is prepared for each patient, considering the molecular type of the tumour, lymph node status, and tumour grade.
The modern treatment approach consists of four main methods:

1-Surgical Treatment: Breast-conserving surgery (lumpectomy) for small tumours (under 2 cm) has a 95% success rate. Special dyes and radioactive materials are used during the procedure to evaluate the lymph nodes.

2-Chemotherapy: Patient-specific protocols are applied. The standard AC-T protocol includes 4 cycles of Adriamycin and Cyclophosphamide, followed by 12 weeks of Paclitaxel treatment. Supportive care is provided to manage side effects.

3-Radiotherapy: The entire breast is irradiated for 28 days, and an additional dose is given to the tumour area. Sun protection is crucial for 6 months after the treatment.

4-Hormonal Therapy: A 5-10 year treatment plan is implemented based on the menopausal status. Premenopausal patients receive Tamoxifen, while postmenopausal patients are prescribed Aromatase Inhibitors.

For HER2-positive patients, targeted drugs like Trastuzumab and Pertuzumab are used. This modern approach can achieve a 43-62% complete recovery rate, depending on the hormone receptor status. Treatment success is monitored through regular imaging and blood tests.
