Blepharoplasty

Blepharoplasty

Blepharoplasty, or eyelid surgery, is a modern aesthetic surgical procedure preferred by more than 1.3 million patients per year. This minimally invasive procedure improves both cosmetic appearance and vision quality by removing excess skin, muscle, and fat tissue around the eyes.

The procedure is performed under local anaesthesia and sedation in 85% of patients. Upper eyelid surgery takes 45-60 minutes, and upper and lower eyelid surgery takes 90-120 minutes. Incisions are strategically placed: above the natural crease on the upper eyelid, and 5-7 mm below the lash line on the lower eyelid. The modern transconjunctival technique allows for an approach without visible scarring on the lower eyelid in suitable cases.

The first 72 hours are critical in the healing process, requiring regular cold compresses. Absorbable sutures dissolve spontaneously in 5-7 days. Patients generally return to social life within 10-14 days and can resume exercise in 14-21 days. Success rates are quite high: 98% for the upper eyelid, 92% for the lower eyelid, and a 25-30% increase in the visual field. Results last an average of 8-10 years, and 96% of patients are satisfied with the aesthetic outcome and 88% with the improvement in vision quality.
